Heart Smiles

heart smiles

I walked into Sara’s room tonight to a common sight…. Sara sitting in her bed, reading her Bible.  As I walked in, she glanced up at me, barely acknowledging I was there, and went back to reading.  My little seven year old girl devours that Book at night.  As she came across something she was familiar with, she began to smile and read out loud… “Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name…”  She read through to the verse where it says that if we do not forgive others their sins, our Heavenly Father will not forgive us for our sins, and made a funny little “uh-oh” face, after which I had to take it and close it in order to get her to go to sleep.  What a funny little thing she is.  🙂

Before she was finished, as I was sitting quietly watching her read, I recalled what the Lord had said to me ten years ago, and what He has reiterated to me in times of hurt and fear… “Your children shall be taught of (by) the Lord, and great will be the peace of your household.”  Isaiah 54:13  It dawned on me that the fulfillment of that promise is already beginning to manifest in the life of my daughter.  Picking up the Bible to read is her choice.  She has a myriad of cute little books and fun chapter books in her room, and she could pick up and read any of them she wants to at night.  Instead, it is the Word of God that has her attention, and I am in awe of a God Who draws and woos the heart of a little seven-year-old girl.

My heart is comforted to know that, in all of the ways I feel that I fail in teaching my children to live a godly life, God Himself has promised to be their Teacher and the One Who disciples them.  So I can rest, knowing that after I have done my best, and having done all I know to do, the Holy Spirit will correct them where I have been wrong, fill in where I have been slack, and instill His own perfect Truth in their hearts.

How could I ask for more than that?  What a loving, faithful Father.  You make my heart smile. ❤

  1. what a beautiful scene to behold, I can almost see her studying over the Word. I am so blessed to know the Holy Spirit is always about God’s business, teaching, protecting, blessing my children, grands and great grands. Thank you, Lord, Amen
